Choose LiveFX when you want to trigger a small set of sound effects and music from a phone or tablet during a show. Choose OBS Studio when your computer is already the production hub and you need audio sources inside scenes, mixer controls, or microphone-driven ducking. They can serve different parts of a setup; LiveFX is a cue player, while OBS Studio is desktop streaming and recording software. Compare cue access and voice balance
LiveFX groups built-in effects, lets you reorder them, and keeps frequently used sounds in Favorites. You can import music, choose repeat or shuffle playback, and tap Speaking to fade music and active effects toward a separate speaking volume. The Speaking control is manual: remember to tap it again after talking. OBS Studio adds a media file as a scene source and offers an audio mixer. Its compressor filter can use a microphone as a sidechain source to lower another audio source automatically while you speak. If you already work in OBS scenes, that automation may fit better than reaching for another device.
Test the complete signal path before choosing
LiveFX does not replace OBS Studio's scene composition, capture, recording, or desktop mixer. If you use both, first work out how your phone or tablet audio reaches the computer or streaming platform; the routing depends on your hardware and software and is not provided automatically by this comparison. Build a five-cue test, play one effect over music, speak at your normal microphone distance, and listen to a private recording from the audience route. Choose the setup that lets you reach cues reliably while keeping speech intelligible.
